Surah Al-Bayyinah (Arabic: سورة Al-Bayyinah, "The Clear Proof") is the 98 chapter (surah) of the Qur'an, containing 8 verses (ayahs). It is classified as a Medinan Surah, meaning it is historically understood to have been revealed during the Medinan Period (622–632 CE) of the prophecy.
Introduction
Surah Al-Bayyinah ("The Clear Proof") is chapter 98 of 114 in the Qur'an. The full Arabic text, English translation and transliteration of all 8 verses are given below, with verse-by-verse Tafsir available on each ayah.
Text and Translation
Verse 98:1
لَمۡ يَكُنِ الَّذِيۡنَ كَفَرُوۡا مِنۡ اَهۡلِ الۡكِتٰبِ وَالۡمُشۡرِكِيۡنَ مُنۡفَكِّيۡنَ حَتّٰي تَاۡتِيَهُمُ الۡبَيِّنَةُۙ
lam yakuni alladhīna kafarū min ahli l-kitābi wal-mush'rikīna munfakkīna ḥattā tatiyahumu l-bayinatu
Those who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists were not to be parted [from misbelief] until there came to them clear evidence
Verse 98:2
رَسُوۡلٌ مِّنَ اللّٰهِ يَتۡلُوۡا صُحُفًا مُّطَهَّرَةًۙ
rasūlun mina l-lahi yatlū ṣuḥufan muṭahharatan
A Messenger from Allah, reciting purified scriptures
Verse 98:3
فِيۡهَا كُتُبٌ قَيِّمَةٌؕ
fīhā kutubun qayyimatun
Within which are correct writings
Verse 98:4
وَمَا تَفَرَّقَ الَّذِيۡنَ اُوۡتُوا الۡكِتٰبَ اِلَّا مِنۭۡ بَعۡدِ مَا جَآءَتۡهُمُ الۡبَيِّنَةُؕ
wamā tafarraqa alladhīna ūtū l-kitāba illā min baʿdi mā jāathumu l-bayinatu
Nor did those who were given the Scripture become divided until after there had come to them clear evidence
Verse 98:5
وَمَا٘ اُمِرُوۡ٘ا اِلَّا لِيَعۡبُدُوا اللّٰهَ مُخۡلِصِيۡنَ لَهُ الدِّيۡنَ ۙ حُنَفَآءَ وَيُقِيۡمُوا الصَّلٰوةَ وَيُؤۡتُوا الزَّكٰوةَ وَذٰلِكَ دِيۡنُ الۡقَيِّمَةِؕ
wamā umirū illā liyaʿbudū l-laha mukh'liṣīna lahu l-dīna ḥunafāa wayuqīmū l-ṣalata wayu'tū l-zakata wadhālika dīnu l-qayimati
And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth, and to establish prayer and to give zakah. And that is the correct religion
Verse 98:6
اِنَّ الَّذِيۡنَ كَفَرُوۡا مِنۡ اَهۡلِ الۡكِتٰبِ وَالۡمُشۡرِكِيۡنَ فِيۡ نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ خٰلِدِيۡنَ فِيۡهَاؕ اُولٰٓئِكَ هُمۡ شَرُّ الۡبَرِيَّةِؕ
inna alladhīna kafarū min ahli l-kitābi wal-mush'rikīna fī nāri jahannama khālidīna fīhā ulāika hum sharru l-bariyati
Indeed, they who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists will be in the fire of Hell, abiding eternally therein. Those are the worst of creatures
Verse 98:7
اِنَّ الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا وَعَمِلُوا الصّٰلِحٰتِۙ اُولٰٓئِكَ هُمۡ خَيۡرُ الۡبَرِيَّةِؕ
inna alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti ulāika hum khayru l-bariyati
Indeed, they who have believed and done righteous deeds - those are the best of creatures
Verse 98:8
جَزَآؤُهُمۡ عِنۡدَ رَبِّهِمۡ جَنّٰتُ عَدۡنٍ تَجۡرِيۡ مِنۡ تَحۡتِهَا الۡاَنۡهٰرُ خٰلِدِيۡنَ فِيۡهَا٘ اَبَدًاؕ رَضِيَ اللّٰهُ عَنۡهُمۡ وَرَضُوۡا عَنۡهُؕ ذٰلِكَ لِمَنۡ خَشِيَ رَبَّهٗࣖ
jazāuhum ʿinda rabbihim jannātu ʿadnin tajrī min taḥtihā l-anhāru khālidīna fīhā abadan raḍiya l-lahu ʿanhum waraḍū ʿanhu dhālika liman khashiya rabbahu
Their reward with Allah will be gardens of perpetual residence beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever, Allah being pleased with them and they with Him. That is for whoever has feared his Lord
