Surah Al-'Alaq (Arabic: سورة Al-'Alaq, "The Clot") is the 96 chapter (surah) of the Qur'an, containing 19 verses (ayahs). It is classified as a Meccan Surah, meaning it is historically understood to have been revealed during the Meccan Period (610–622 CE) of the prophecy.
Introduction

Text and Translation
Verse 96:1
اِقۡرَاۡ بِاسۡمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِيۡ خَلَقَۚ
iq'ra bi-is'mi rabbika alladhī khalaqa
Recite in the name of your Lord who created
Verse 96:2
خَلَقَ الۡاِنۡسَانَ مِنۡ عَلَقٍۚ
khalaqa l-insāna min ʿalaqin
Created man from a clinging substance
Verse 96:3
اِقۡرَاۡ وَرَبُّكَ الۡاَكۡرَمُۙ
iq'ra warabbuka l-akramu
Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous
Verse 96:4
الَّذِيۡ عَلَّمَ بِالۡقَلَمِۙ
alladhī ʿallama bil-qalami
Who taught by the pen
Verse 96:5
عَلَّمَ الۡاِنۡسَانَ مَا لَمۡ يَعۡلَمۡؕ
ʿallama l-insāna mā lam yaʿlam
Taught man that which he knew not
Verse 96:6
كَلَّا٘ اِنَّ الۡاِنۡسَانَ لَيَطۡغٰ٘يۙ
kallā inna l-insāna layaṭghā
No! [But] indeed, man transgresses
Verse 96:7
اَنۡ رَّاٰهُ اسۡتَغۡنٰيؕ
an raāhu is'taghnā
Because he sees himself self-sufficient
Verse 96:8
اِنَّ اِلٰي رَبِّكَ الرُّجۡعٰيؕ
inna ilā rabbika l-ruj'ʿā
Indeed, to your Lord is the return
Verse 96:9
اَرَءَيۡتَ الَّذِيۡ يَنۡهٰيۙ
ara-ayta alladhī yanhā
Have you seen the one who forbids
Verse 96:10
عَبۡدًا اِذَا صَلّٰيؕ
ʿabdan idhā ṣallā
A servant when he prays
Verse 96:11
اَرَءَيۡتَ اِنۡ كَانَ عَلَي الۡهُدٰ٘يۙ
Have you seen if he is upon guidance
Verse 96:12
اَوۡ اَمَرَ بِالتَّقۡوٰيؕ
Or enjoins righteousness
Verse 96:13
اَرَءَيۡتَ اِنۡ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلّٰيؕ
Have you seen if he denies and turns away
Verse 96:14
اَلَمۡ يَعۡلَمۡ بِاَنَّ اللّٰهَ يَرٰيؕ
Does he not know that Allah sees
Verse 96:15
كَلَّا لَئِنۡ لَّمۡ يَنۡتَهِ ۙ لَنَسۡفَعًاۭ بِالنَّاصِيَةِۙ
No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock
Verse 96:16
نَاصِيَةٍ كَاذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍۚ
A lying, sinning forelock
Verse 96:17
فَلۡيَدۡعُ نَادِيَهٗۙ
Then let him call his associates
Verse 96:18
سَنَدۡعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَۙ
We will call the angels of Hell
Verse 96:19
كَلَّاؕ لَا تُطِعۡهُ وَاسۡجُدۡ وَاقۡتَرِبۡࣛࣖ
No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]
