Surah Al-A'la (Arabic: سورة Al-A'la, "The Most High") is the 87 chapter (surah) of the Qur'an, containing 19 verses (ayahs). It is classified as a Meccan Surah, meaning it is historically understood to have been revealed during the Meccan Period (610–622 CE) of the prophecy.
Introduction
Surah Al-A'la ("The Most High") is chapter 87 of 114 in the Qur'an. The full Arabic text, English translation and transliteration of all 19 verses are given below, with verse-by-verse Tafsir available on each ayah.
Text and Translation
Verse 87:1
سَبِّحِ اسۡمَ رَبِّكَ الۡاَعۡلَيۙ
sabbiḥi is'ma rabbika l-aʿlā
Exalt the name of your Lord, the Most High
Verse 87:2
الَّذِيۡ خَلَقَ فَسَوّٰيࣕۙ
alladhī khalaqa fasawwā
Who created and proportioned
Verse 87:3
وَالَّذِيۡ قَدَّرَ فَهَدٰيࣕۙ
wa-alladhī qaddara fahadā
And who destined and [then] guided
Verse 87:4
وَالَّذِيۡ٘ اَخۡرَجَ الۡمَرۡعٰيࣕۙ
wa-alladhī akhraja l-marʿā
And who brings out the pasture
Verse 87:5
فَجَعَلَهٗ غُثَآءً اَحۡوٰيؕ
fajaʿalahu ghuthāan aḥwā
And [then] makes it black stubble
Verse 87:6
سَنُقۡرِئُكَ فَلَا تَنۡسٰ٘يۙ
sanuq'ri-uka falā tansā
We will make you recite, [O Muhammad], and you will not forget
Verse 87:7
اِلَّا مَا شَآءَ اللّٰهُؕ اِنَّهٗ يَعۡلَمُ الۡجَهۡرَ وَمَا يَخۡفٰيؕ
illā mā shāa l-lahu innahu yaʿlamu l-jahra wamā yakhfā
Except what Allah should will. Indeed, He knows what is declared and what is hidden
Verse 87:8
وَنُيَسِّرُكَ لِلۡيُسۡرٰيۚۖ
wanuyassiruka lil'yus'rā
And We will ease you toward ease
Verse 87:9
فَذَكِّرۡ اِنۡ نَّفَعَتِ الذِّكۡرٰيؕ
fadhakkir in nafaʿati l-dhik'rā
So remind, if the reminder should benefit
Verse 87:10
سَيَذَّكَّرُ مَنۡ يَّخۡشٰيۙ
sayadhakkaru man yakhshā
He who fears [Allah] will be reminded
Verse 87:11
وَيَتَجَنَّبُهَا الۡاَشۡقَيۙ
But the wretched one will avoid it
Verse 87:12
الَّذِيۡ يَصۡلَي النَّارَ الۡكُبۡرٰيۚ
[He] who will [enter and] burn in the greatest Fire
Verse 87:13
ثُمَّ لَا يَمُوۡتُ فِيۡهَا وَلَا يَحۡيٰيؕ
Neither dying therein nor living
Verse 87:14
قَدۡ اَفۡلَحَ مَنۡ تَزَكّٰيۙ
He has certainly succeeded who purifies himself
Verse 87:15
وَذَكَرَ اسۡمَ رَبِّهٖ فَصَلّٰيؕ
And mentions the name of his Lord and prays
Verse 87:16
بَلۡ تُؤۡثِرُوۡنَ الۡحَيٰوةَ الدُّنۡيَاۙ
But you prefer the worldly life
Verse 87:17
وَالۡاٰخِرَةُ خَيۡرٌ وَّاَبۡقٰيؕ
While the Hereafter is better and more enduring
Verse 87:18
اِنَّ هٰذَا لَفِي الصُّحُفِ الۡاُوۡلٰيۙ
Indeed, this is in the former scriptures

صُحُفِ اِبۡرٰهِيۡمَ وَمُوۡسٰيࣖ
The scriptures of Abraham and Moses
