Surah At-Tariq (Arabic: سورة At-Tariq, "The Night-Comer") is the 86 chapter (surah) of the Qur'an, containing 17 verses (ayahs). It is classified as a Meccan Surah, meaning it is historically understood to have been revealed during the Meccan Period (610–622 CE) of the prophecy.

Introduction

Surah At-Tariq ("The Night-Comer") is chapter 86 of 114 in the Qur'an. The full Arabic text, English translation and transliteration of all 17 verses are given below, with verse-by-verse Tafsir available on each ayah.

Text and Translation

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـنِ الرَّحِيمِ
Bismi-llāhi r-raḥmāni r-raḥīm
Verse 86:1
وَالسَّمَآءِ وَالطَّارِقِۙ‏
wal-samāi wal-ṭāriqi
By the sky and the night comer
Verse 86:2
وَمَا٘ اَدۡرٰىكَ مَا الطَّارِقُۙ‏
wamā adrāka mā l-ṭāriqu
And what can make you know what is the night comer
Verse 86:3
النَّجۡمُ الثَّاقِبُۙ‏
al-najmu l-thāqibu
It is the piercing star
Verse 86:4
اِنۡ كُلُّ نَفۡسٍ لَّمَّا عَلَيۡهَا حَافِظٌؕ‏
in kullu nafsin lammā ʿalayhā ḥāfiẓun
There is no soul but that it has over it a protector
Verse 86:5
فَلۡيَنۡظُرِ الۡاِنۡسَانُ مِمَّ خُلِقَؕ‏
falyanẓuri l-insānu mimma khuliqa
So let man observe from what he was created
Verse 86:6
خُلِقَ مِنۡ مَّآءٍ دَافِقٍۙ‏
khuliqa min māin dāfiqin
He was created from a fluid, ejected
Verse 86:7
يَّخۡرُجُ مِنۭۡ بَيۡنِ الصُّلۡبِ وَالتَّرَآئِبِؕ‏
yakhruju min bayni l-ṣul'bi wal-tarāibi
Emerging from between the backbone and the ribs
Verse 86:8
اِنَّهٗ عَلٰي رَجۡعِهٖ لَقَادِرٌؕ‏
innahu ʿalā rajʿihi laqādirun
Indeed, Allah, to return him [to life], is Able
Verse 86:9
يَوۡمَ تُبۡلَي السَّرَآئِرُۙ‏
yawma tub'lā l-sarāiru
The Day when secrets will be put on trial
Verse 86:10
فَمَا لَهٗ مِنۡ قُوَّةٍ وَّلَا نَاصِرٍؕ‏
famā lahu min quwwatin walā nāṣirin
Then man will have no power or any helper
Verse 86:11
وَالسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ الرَّجۡعِۙ‏
By the sky which returns [rain]
Verse 86:12
وَالۡاَرۡضِ ذَاتِ الصَّدۡعِۙ‏
And [by] the earth which cracks open
Verse 86:13
اِنَّهٗ لَقَوۡلٌ فَصۡلٌۙ‏
Indeed, the Qur'an is a decisive statement
Verse 86:14
وَّمَا هُوَ بِالۡهَزۡلِؕ‏
And it is not amusement
Verse 86:15
اِنَّهُمۡ يَكِيۡدُوۡنَ كَيۡدًاۙ‏
Indeed, they are planning a plan
Verse 86:16
وَّاَكِيۡدُ كَيۡدًاۚۖ‏
But I am planning a plan
Verse 86:17
فَمَهِّلِ الۡكٰفِرِيۡنَ اَمۡهِلۡهُمۡ رُوَيۡدًاࣖ‏
So allow time for the disbelievers. Leave them awhile
