Surah Al-Inshiqaq (Arabic: سورة Al-Inshiqaq, "The Sundering") is the 84 chapter (surah) of the Qur'an, containing 25 verses (ayahs). It is classified as a Meccan Surah, meaning it is historically understood to have been revealed during the Meccan Period (610–622 CE) of the prophecy.

Introduction

Surah Al-Inshiqaq ("The Sundering") is chapter 84 of 114 in the Qur'an. The full Arabic text, English translation and transliteration of all 25 verses are given below, with verse-by-verse Tafsir available on each ayah.

Text and Translation

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـنِ الرَّحِيمِ
Bismi-llāhi r-raḥmāni r-raḥīm
Verse 84:1
اِذَا السَّمَآءُ انۡشَقَّتۡۙ‏
idhā l-samāu inshaqqat
When the sky has split [open]
Verse 84:2
وَاَذِنَتۡ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتۡۙ‏
wa-adhinat lirabbihā waḥuqqat
And has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so]
Verse 84:3
وَاِذَا الۡاَرۡضُ مُدَّتۡؕ‏
wa-idhā l-arḍu muddat
And when the earth has been extended
Verse 84:4
وَاَلۡقَتۡ مَا فِيۡهَا وَتَخَلَّتۡۙ‏
wa-alqat mā fīhā watakhallat
And has cast out that within it and relinquished [it]
Verse 84:5
وَاَذِنَتۡ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتۡؕ‏
wa-adhinat lirabbihā waḥuqqat
And has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so]
Verse 84:6
يٰ٘اَيُّهَا الۡاِنۡسَانُ اِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ اِلٰي رَبِّكَ كَدۡحًا فَمُلٰقِيۡهِۚ‏
yāayyuhā l-insānu innaka kādiḥun ilā rabbika kadḥan famulāqīhi
O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion and will meet it
Verse 84:7
فَاَمَّا مَنۡ اُوۡتِيَ كِتٰبَهٗ بِيَمِيۡنِهٖۙ‏
fa-ammā man ūtiya kitābahu biyamīnihi
Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand
Verse 84:8
فَسَوۡفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابًا يَّسِيۡرًاۙ‏
fasawfa yuḥāsabu ḥisāban yasīran
He will be judged with an easy account
Verse 84:9
وَّيَنۡقَلِبُ اِلٰ٘ي اَهۡلِهٖ مَسۡرُوۡرًاؕ‏
wayanqalibu ilā ahlihi masrūran
And return to his people in happiness
Verse 84:10
وَاَمَّا مَنۡ اُوۡتِيَ كِتٰبَهٗ وَرَآءَ ظَهۡرِهٖۙ‏
wa-ammā man ūtiya kitābahu warāa ẓahrihi
But as for he who is given his record behind his back
Verse 84:11
فَسَوۡفَ يَدۡعُوۡا ثُبُوۡرًاۙ‏
He will cry out for destruction
Verse 84:12
وَّيَصۡلٰي سَعِيۡرًاؕ‏
And [enter to] burn in a Blaze
Verse 84:13
اِنَّهٗ كَانَ فِيۡ٘ اَهۡلِهٖ مَسۡرُوۡرًاؕ‏
Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness
Verse 84:14
اِنَّهٗ ظَنَّ اَنۡ لَّنۡ يَّحُوۡرَۚۛ‏
Indeed, he had thought he would never return [to Allah]
Verse 84:15
بَلٰ٘يۚۛ اِنَّ رَبَّهٗ كَانَ بِهٖ بَصِيۡرًاؕ‏
But yes! Indeed, his Lord was ever of him, Seeing
Verse 84:16
فَلَا٘ اُقۡسِمُ بِالشَّفَقِۙ‏
So I swear by the twilight glow
Verse 84:17
وَالَّيۡلِ وَمَا وَسَقَۙ‏
And [by] the night and what it envelops
Verse 84:18
وَالۡقَمَرِ اِذَا اتَّسَقَۙ‏
And [by] the moon when it becomes full
Verse 84:19
لَتَرۡكَبُنَّ طَبَقًا عَنۡ طَبَقٍؕ‏
[That] you will surely experience state after state
Verse 84:20
فَمَا لَهُمۡ لَا يُؤۡمِنُوۡنَۙ‏
So what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe
Verse 84:21
وَاِذَا قُرِئَ عَلَيۡهِمُ الۡقُرۡاٰنُ لَا يَسۡجُدُوۡنَࣛؕ‏
And when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allah]
Verse 84:22
بَلِ الَّذِيۡنَ كَفَرُوۡا يُكَذِّبُوۡنَؗۖ‏
But those who have disbelieved deny
Verse 84:23
وَاللّٰهُ اَعۡلَمُ بِمَا يُوۡعُوۡنَؗۖ‏
And Allah is most knowing of what they keep within themselves
Verse 84:24
فَبَشِّرۡهُمۡ بِعَذَابٍ اَلِيۡمٍۙ‏
So give them tidings of a painful punishment
Verse 84:25
اِلَّا الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا وَعَمِلُوا الصّٰلِحٰتِ لَهُمۡ اَجۡرٌ غَيۡرُ مَمۡنُوۡنٍࣖ‏
Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted
