Surah At-Takwir (Arabic: سورة At-Takwir, "The Overthrowing") is the 81 chapter (surah) of the Qur'an, containing 29 verses (ayahs). It is classified as a Meccan Surah, meaning it is historically understood to have been revealed during the Meccan Period (610–622 CE) of the prophecy.
Introduction

Text and Translation
Verse 81:1
اِذَا الشَّمۡسُ كُوِّرَتۡࣕۙ
idhā l-shamsu kuwwirat
When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness]
Verse 81:2
وَاِذَا النُّجُوۡمُ انۡكَدَرَتۡࣕۙ
wa-idhā l-nujūmu inkadarat
And when the stars fall, dispersing
Verse 81:3
وَاِذَا الۡجِبَالُ سُيِّرَتۡࣕۙ
wa-idhā l-jibālu suyyirat
And when the mountains are removed
Verse 81:4
وَاِذَا الۡعِشَارُ عُطِّلَتۡࣕۙ
wa-idhā l-ʿishāru ʿuṭṭilat
And when full-term she-camels are neglected
Verse 81:5
وَاِذَا الۡوُحُوۡشُ حُشِرَتۡࣕۙ
wa-idhā l-wuḥūshu ḥushirat
And when the wild beasts are gathered
Verse 81:6
وَاِذَا الۡبِحَارُ سُجِّرَتۡࣕۙ
wa-idhā l-biḥāru sujjirat
And when the seas are filled with flame
Verse 81:7
وَاِذَا النُّفُوۡسُ زُوِّجَتۡࣕۙ
wa-idhā l-nufūsu zuwwijat
And when the souls are paired
Verse 81:8
وَاِذَا الۡمَوۡءٗدَةُ سُئِلَتۡࣕۙ
wa-idhā l-mawūdatu su-ilat
And when the girl [who was] buried alive is asked
Verse 81:9
بِاَيِّ ذَنۭۡ بٍ قُتِلَتۡۚ
bi-ayyi dhanbin qutilat
For what sin she was killed
Verse 81:10
وَاِذَا الصُّحُفُ نُشِرَتۡࣕۙ
wa-idhā l-ṣuḥufu nushirat
And when the pages are made public
Verse 81:11
وَاِذَا السَّمَآءُ كُشِطَتۡࣕۙ
And when the sky is stripped away
Verse 81:12
وَاِذَا الۡجَحِيۡمُ سُعِّرَتۡࣕۙ
And when Hellfire is set ablaze
Verse 81:13
وَاِذَا الۡجَنَّةُ اُزۡلِفَتۡࣕۙ
And when Paradise is brought near
Verse 81:14
عَلِمَتۡ نَفۡسٌ مَّا٘ اَحۡضَرَتۡؕ
A soul will [then] know what it has brought [with it]
Verse 81:15
فَلَا٘ اُقۡسِمُ بِالۡخُنَّسِۙ
So I swear by the retreating stars
Verse 81:16
الۡجَوَارِ الۡكُنَّسِۙ
Those that run [their courses] and disappear
Verse 81:17
وَالَّيۡلِ اِذَا عَسۡعَسَۙ
And by the night as it closes in
Verse 81:18
وَالصُّبۡحِ اِذَا تَنَفَّسَۙ
And by the dawn when it breathes
Verse 81:19
اِنَّهٗ لَقَوۡلُ رَسُوۡلٍ كَرِيۡمٍۙ
[That] indeed, the Qur'an is a word [conveyed by] a noble messenger
Verse 81:20
ذِيۡ قُوَّةٍ عِنۡدَ ذِي الۡعَرۡشِ مَكِيۡنٍۙ
[Who is] possessed of power and with the Owner of the Throne, secure [in position]
Verse 81:21
مُّطَاعٍ ثَمَّ اَمِيۡنٍؕ
Obeyed there [in the heavens] and trustworthy
Verse 81:22
وَمَا صَاحِبُكُمۡ بِمَجۡنُوۡنٍۚ
And your companion is not [at all] mad
Verse 81:23
وَلَقَدۡ رَاٰهُ بِالۡاُفُقِ الۡمُبِيۡنِۚ
And he has already seen Gabriel in the clear horizon
Verse 81:24
وَمَا هُوَ عَلَي الۡغَيۡبِ بِضَنِيۡنٍۚ
And Muhammad is not a withholder of [knowledge of] the unseen
Verse 81:25
وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوۡلِ شَيۡطٰنٍ رَّجِيۡمٍۙ
And the Qur'an is not the word of a devil, expelled [from the heavens]
Verse 81:26
فَاَيۡنَ تَذۡهَبُوۡنَؕ
So where are you going
Verse 81:27
اِنۡ هُوَ اِلَّا ذِكۡرٌ لِّلۡعٰلَمِيۡنَۙ
It is not except a reminder to the worlds
Verse 81:28
لِمَنۡ شَآءَ مِنۡكُمۡ اَنۡ يَّسۡتَقِيۡمَؕ
For whoever wills among you to take a right course
Verse 81:29
وَمَا تَشَآءُوۡنَ اِلَّا٘ اَنۡ يَّشَآءَ اللّٰهُ رَبُّ الۡعٰلَمِيۡنَࣖ
And you do not will except that Allah wills - Lord of the worlds
