Surah Al-Qiyamah (Arabic: سورة Al-Qiyamah, "The Resurrection") is the 75 chapter (surah) of the Qur'an, containing 40 verses (ayahs). It is classified as a Meccan Surah, meaning it is historically understood to have been revealed during the Meccan Period (610–622 CE) of the prophecy.

Introduction

Surah Al-Qiyamah ("The Resurrection") is chapter 75 of 114 in the Qur'an. The full Arabic text, English translation and transliteration of all 40 verses are given below, with verse-by-verse Tafsir available on each ayah.

Text and Translation

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـنِ الرَّحِيمِ
Bismi-llāhi r-raḥmāni r-raḥīm
Verse 75:1
لَا٘ اُقۡسِمُ بِيَوۡمِ الۡقِيٰمَةِۙ‏
lā uq'simu biyawmi l-qiyāmati
I swear by the Day of Resurrection
Verse 75:2
وَلَا٘ اُقۡسِمُ بِالنَّفۡسِ اللَّوَّامَةِ
walā uq'simu bil-nafsi l-lawāmati
And I swear by the reproaching soul [to the certainty of resurrection]
Verse 75:3
اَيَحۡسَبُ الۡاِنۡسَانُ اَلَّنۡ نَّجۡمَعَ عِظَامَهٗؕ‏
ayaḥsabu l-insānu allan najmaʿa ʿiẓāmahu
Does man think that We will not assemble his bones
Verse 75:4
بَلٰي قٰدِرِيۡنَ عَلٰ٘ي اَنۡ نُّسَوِّيَ بَنَانَهٗ
balā qādirīna ʿalā an nusawwiya banānahu
Yes. [We are] Able [even] to proportion his fingertips
Verse 75:5
بَلۡ يُرِيۡدُ الۡاِنۡسَانُ لِيَفۡجُرَ اَمَامَهٗۚ‏
bal yurīdu l-insānu liyafjura amāmahu
But man desires to continue in sin
Verse 75:6
يَسۡـَٔلُ اَيَّانَ يَوۡمُ الۡقِيٰمَةِؕ‏
yasalu ayyāna yawmu l-qiyāmati
He asks, "When is the Day of Resurrection
Verse 75:7
فَاِذَا بَرِقَ الۡبَصَرُۙ‏
fa-idhā bariqa l-baṣaru
So when vision is dazzled
Verse 75:8
وَخَسَفَ الۡقَمَرُۙ‏
wakhasafa l-qamaru
And the moon darkens
Verse 75:9
وَجُمِعَ الشَّمۡسُ وَالۡقَمَرُۙ‏
wajumiʿa l-shamsu wal-qamaru
And the sun and the moon are joined
Verse 75:10
يَقُوۡلُ الۡاِنۡسَانُ يَوۡمَئِذٍ اَيۡنَ الۡمَفَرُّۚ‏
yaqūlu l-insānu yawma-idhin ayna l-mafaru
Man will say on that Day, "Where is the [place of] escape
Verse 75:11
كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَؕ‏
No! There is no refuge
Verse 75:12
اِلٰي رَبِّكَ يَوۡمَئِذِ اِۨلۡمُسۡتَقَرُّؕ‏
To your Lord, that Day, is the [place of] permanence
Verse 75:13
يُنَبَّؤُا الۡاِنۡسَانُ يَوۡمَئِذٍۭ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَاَخَّرَؕ‏
Man will be informed that Day of what he sent ahead and kept back
Verse 75:14
بَلِ الۡاِنۡسَانُ عَلٰي نَفۡسِهٖ بَصِيۡرَةٌۙ‏
Rather, man, against himself, will be a witness
Verse 75:15
وَّلَوۡ اَلۡقٰي مَعَاذِيۡرَهٗؕ‏
Even if he presents his excuses
Verse 75:16
لَا تُحَرِّكۡ بِهٖ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعۡجَلَ بِهٖؕ‏
Move not your tongue with it, [O Muhammad], to hasten with recitation of the Qur'an
Verse 75:17
اِنَّ عَلَيۡنَا جَمۡعَهٗ وَقُرۡاٰنَهٗۚۖ‏
Indeed, upon Us is its collection [in your heart] and [to make possible] its recitation
Verse 75:18
فَاِذَا قَرَاۡنٰهُ فَاتَّبِعۡ قُرۡاٰنَهٗۚ‏
So when We have recited it [through Gabriel], then follow its recitation
Verse 75:19
ثُمَّ اِنَّ عَلَيۡنَا بَيَانَهٗؕ‏
Then upon Us is its clarification [to you]
Verse 75:20
كَلَّا بَلۡ تُحِبُّوۡنَ الۡعَاجِلَةَۙ‏
No! But you love the immediate
Verse 75:21
وَتَذَرُوۡنَ الۡاٰخِرَةَؕ‏
And leave the Hereafter
Verse 75:22
وُجُوۡهٌ يَّوۡمَئِذٍ نَّاضِرَةٌۙ‏
[Some] faces, that Day, will be radiant
Verse 75:23
اِلٰي رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٌۚ‏
Looking at their Lord
Verse 75:24
وَوُجُوۡهٌ يَّوۡمَئِذٍۭ بَاسِرَةٌۙ‏
And [some] faces, that Day, will be contorted
Verse 75:25
تَظُنُّ اَنۡ يُّفۡعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةٌؕ‏
Expecting that there will be done to them [something] backbreaking
Verse 75:26
كَلَّا٘ اِذَا بَلَغَتِ التَّرَاقِيَۙ‏
No! When the soul has reached the collar bones
Verse 75:27
وَقِيۡلَ مَنۡࣝ رَاقٍۙ‏
And it is said, "Who will cure [him]
Verse 75:28
وَّظَنَّ اَنَّهُ الۡفِرَاقُۙ‏
And the dying one is certain that it is the [time of] separation
Verse 75:29
وَالۡتَفَّتِ السَّاقُ بِالسَّاقِۙ‏
And the leg is wound about the leg
Verse 75:30
اِلٰي رَبِّكَ يَوۡمَئِذِ اِۨلۡمَسَاقُؕࣖ‏
To your Lord, that Day, will be the procession
Verse 75:31
فَلَا صَدَّقَ وَلَا صَلّٰيۙ‏
And the disbeliever had not believed, nor had he prayed
Verse 75:32
وَلٰكِنۡ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلّٰيۙ‏
But [instead], he denied and turned away
Verse 75:33
ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ اِلٰ٘ي اَهۡلِهٖ يَتَمَطّٰيؕ‏
And then he went to his people, swaggering [in pride]
Verse 75:34
اَوۡلٰي لَكَ فَاَوۡلٰيۙ‏
Woe to you, and woe
Verse 75:35
ثُمَّ اَوۡلٰي لَكَ فَاَوۡلٰيؕ‏
Then woe to you, and woe
Verse 75:36
اَيَحۡسَبُ الۡاِنۡسَانُ اَنۡ يُّتۡرَكَ سُدًيؕ‏
Does man think that he will be left neglected
Verse 75:37
اَلَمۡ يَكُ نُطۡفَةً مِّنۡ مَّنِيٍّ يُّمۡنٰيۙ‏
Had he not been a sperm from semen emitted
Verse 75:38
ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَقَةً فَخَلَقَ فَسَوّٰيۙ‏
Then he was a clinging clot, and [Allah] created [his form] and proportioned [him]
Verse 75:39
فَجَعَلَ مِنۡهُ الزَّوۡجَيۡنِ الذَّكَرَ وَالۡاُنۡثٰيؕ‏
And made of him two mates, the male and the female
Verse 75:40
اَلَيۡسَ ذٰلِكَ بِقٰدِرٍ عَلٰ٘ي اَنۡ يُّحۡيِۦَ الۡمَوۡتٰيࣖ‏
Is not that [Creator] Able to give life to the dead
