Surah Al-'Adiyat (Arabic: سورة Al-'Adiyat, "The Courser") is the 100 chapter (surah) of the Qur'an, containing 11 verses (ayahs). It is classified as a Meccan Surah, meaning it is historically understood to have been revealed during the Meccan Period (610–622 CE) of the prophecy.

Introduction

Surah Al-'Adiyat ("The Courser") is chapter 100 of 114 in the Qur'an. The full Arabic text, English translation and transliteration of all 11 verses are given below, with verse-by-verse Tafsir available on each ayah.

Text and Translation

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـنِ الرَّحِيمِ
Bismi-llāhi r-raḥmāni r-raḥīm
Verse 100:1
وَالۡعٰدِيٰتِ ضَبۡحًاۙ‏
wal-ʿādiyāti ḍabḥan
By the racers, panting
Verse 100:2
فَالۡمُوۡرِيٰتِ قَدۡحًاۙ‏
fal-mūriyāti qadḥan
And the producers of sparks [when] striking
Verse 100:3
فَالۡمُغِيۡرٰتِ صُبۡحًاۙ‏
fal-mughīrāti ṣub'ḥan
And the chargers at dawn
Verse 100:4
فَاَثَرۡنَ بِهٖ نَقۡعًاۙ‏
fa-atharna bihi naqʿan
Stirring up thereby [clouds of] dust
Verse 100:5
فَوَسَطۡنَ بِهٖ جَمۡعًاۙ‏
fawasaṭna bihi jamʿan
Arriving thereby in the center collectively
Verse 100:6
اِنَّ الۡاِنۡسَانَ لِرَبِّهٖ لَكَنُوۡدٌۚ‏
inna l-insāna lirabbihi lakanūdun
Indeed mankind, to his Lord, is ungrateful
Verse 100:7
وَاِنَّهٗ عَلٰي ذٰلِكَ لَشَهِيۡدٌۚ‏
wa-innahu ʿalā dhālika lashahīdun
And indeed, he is to that a witness
Verse 100:8
وَاِنَّهٗ لِحُبِّ الۡخَيۡرِ لَشَدِيۡدٌؕ‏
wa-innahu liḥubbi l-khayri lashadīdun
And indeed he is, in love of wealth, intense
Verse 100:9
اَفَلَا يَعۡلَمُ اِذَا بُعۡثِرَ مَا فِي الۡقُبُوۡرِۙ‏
afalā yaʿlamu idhā buʿ'thira mā fī l-qubūri
But does he not know that when the contents of the graves are scattered
Verse 100:10
وَحُصِّلَ مَا فِي الصُّدُوۡرِۙ‏
waḥuṣṣila mā fī l-ṣudūri
And that within the breasts is obtained
Verse 100:11
اِنَّ رَبَّهُمۡ بِهِمۡ يَوۡمَئِذٍ لَّخَبِيۡرٌࣖ‏
Indeed, their Lord with them, that Day, is [fully] Acquainted
